Just last week Nodus Watches began shipping out their new Sector Sport. The Sport is the fourth watch in the Sector lineup–all of which make use of the same case. Like the Dive, Field, and Pilot, before it, the Sport is a no nonsense tool watch…with a twist.
In this instance, the twist is one of colour. Nodus has never shied away from unusual dial colours in the past, but the Sport references are particularly playful. It is currently available in two sunburst colourways: Glacial (a cool turquoise) and Salmon.
The dial layouts will look familiar with numerals at three, six, and nine–reminiscent of the Explorer and the Smiths Everest. Nodus, in fact, is billing the watch as modern interpretation of those other mid-century adventurers. Both the hands and the indices have been treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova.
Like its brethren, the Sport is housed in a 38mm stainless steel case. It measures 47mm lug to lug and is 12.5mm thick. The bezel of the Sport is fixed, but pronounced, and the watch employs a large, knurled 7mm crown. Both the crown and caseback and screwed down and the timepiece offers a solid 100m water resistance. The Sport also has drilled lugs and a quick release stainless steel “H-link” bracelet.
At the heart of the Sport is a Seiko NH38–the no date version of the microbrand favourite NH35.

The Sector Sport caseback announces “Designed and Assembled in Los Angeles.” The founders of Nodus believe strongly in quality control and, after discovering issues with overseas assembly, the two brought the process back home where it could be more faithfully overseen. All Nodus watches have a multi-point inspection, followed by ten days of stress testing. Finally, all their movements are regulated to four positions before shipping out.
Final Thoughts
Despite its largely brushed surfaces and no frills design, the Sector Sport does not exude the same “toolishness” of the other Sector members. Perhaps it is the colourways. I have heard Nodus watches described as “utilitarian chic,” and I think that moniker suits the Sport to a tee. Its vintage styling cues–the large unprotected crown, the overall case shape–come off altogether modern in this latest iteration of the Sector Series. The robust construction, coupled with the contemporary flair of the dial designs, make the Sector Sport a polyvalent choice for everyday adventures…and more.
