Funny enough, I’ve had multiple discussions with friends and colleagues that we need more rose gold in the watch world, specifically from Patek. Today, as if by magic, Patek Philippe announced three new rose gold Aquanauts: an annual calendar, a chronograph, and a 48-diamond bezel. Go big or go home, right?

Our first topic of discussion is the new Aquanaut Chronograph, or the 5968R. The brown gradient dial and composite brown strap make the watch look like a Hershey bar sandwiched between brushed and polished rose gold goodness. The case measures 42.2mm in diameter by 11.9mm thick with 120 meters of water resistance. The watch features a sapphire case back, showing the beautiful flyback chronograph Calibre CH28-520 C.
“The self-winding flyback chronograph movement combines tradition (column wheel drive) with innovation (vertical disk clutch). Since the clutch causes almost no wear, the central chronograph seconds hand can also be used to display the seconds continuously.”

Second up, the new Aquanaut Luce ref. 5261R. The watch is slightly smaller since it’s categorized as a “ladies” watch and more complicated than the 5968R. The Luce features a 39.9mm case diameter with 10.9mm of thickness, making this more wearable across various wrist sizes. Powering the watch is a new movement for Patek, the 26-330 S QA LU. The movement is an annual calendar, giving it day, date and month complications.
“The Aquanaut Luce collection for ladies welcomes a new, practical and easy-to-use complication: the patented Annual Calendar: a complete day/date/month calendar requiring only one manual correction per year, at the end of February. The manufacture is thus enriching its offer of complicated ladies’ watches with a non-gemset model.”
– Patek Philippe

Last but not least is another example of chocolate and rose gold goodness, but with diamonds, and is a part of the Aquanaut Luce line. The 5268/200R has a similar aesthetic to the 5968R but with some slight changes. The indices are completely rose gold coloured, and the bezel features 48 1.17 ct diamonds. The most significant difference is that 5268/200R isn’t a chronograph but a three-hand watch with a date and a stop-seconds function thanks to the Calibre 26-330 S C.

Seeing so many people lust over the PP Aquanauts have always made me question whether they are even worth it with the price tag they have. The design seems minimal and fully carried by the brand’s prestigious reputation. Just my two cents..

I honestly think I like the prefer the steel version. For the money this wouldn’t be my first choice, but it definitely wouldn’t be my last
