The GSAR is a quintessential tool watch. In hand, and on wrist, it looks and feels like an instrument first and a watch second. Its MILSpec heritage has been woven into its genetic code. So, the Arctic Edition needed to be more than a simple colourway. It had to be purpose driven.
Perhaps the most famous aviator watch ever designed by Longines was the Lindbergh Hour Angle, which the legendary pilot used to help him navigate by “dead reckoning” in his flight from New York to Paris. As 2022 marks the 190th anniversary of Longines, the Spirit Zulu Time is a nod to that pioneering past, but also a dead reckoning of its own—toward the future.
The Retrospect III is not exactly an overhaul of the original. After all, why fix it, if it ain’t broke. So, let’s call it “tweaked” and move on. The trademark 120-click, unidirectional, inward-sloping bezel is still there. But instead of a ceramic or a metal insert, Nodus have opted for matte black DLC. The 316L stainless steel case is still 42mm in diameter and 48mm lug to lug (the same as the second iteration, but larger than the first); however, the timepiece has lost almost a full millimeter in thickness (a millimeter and half off the original), now measuring in at 13mm.
