A particular quirk about the brand is its penchant for creative colouring. As such, you won’t find any descriptors in the NSW catalogue. Instead, each model in the collection is tied to a specific time and place in Fairfield County, usually within a stone’s throw of its shops in Greenwich. This is why you get “Conyers Farm,” “Grahampton,” “Stanwich,” and “Valleywood,” instead of the more pedestrian brown, light grey, navy blue, and green.
In 1994, Nautica released their first collection of watches, created through cooperation with Prestige Time in Hong Kong, containing Chinese movements with Swiss parts, and engraved with ‘Made in U.S.A.’ on the case backs. That same year, Timex signed a global licensing agreement with Nautica which eventually led to the creation of a dedicated Timex subsidiary in 1996 for the design, manufacture, and marketing of the Nautica watch brand. The seed planted years before began to grow in earnest.
As the New Year approaches it is a time to look forward and make plans for the future, but also to look back over that which has come to pass. This year was a banner one for tool watches--GMTs and vintage-styled chronographs, particularly. But a few good divers, as well. And as you know, here at Calibre321, we like our tool watches.
